Accounting Assistant

Position Overview

The primary responsibility of the accounting assistant will be to assist the CSFO in carrying out the financial duties and responsibilities at Legacy Prep.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrates support for Legacy Prep and its goals and priorities.
  • Maintains and reconcile a variety of ledgers, reports and account records.
  • Assists in the preparation of financial records and payroll activities.
  • Performs monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Assists in the posting of all funds and expenditures.
  • Assists in the processing of accounts payable in a timely manner.
  • Opens all accounts payable invoices and file until due for payment.
  • Provides monthly spreadsheet report for all checks processed that will be presented to the board member with the financial report.
  • Keeps track of all Classroom Instructional Support funds.
  • Assists in the preparation of year ending tasks such as W-2s and 1099s.
  • Participates in AASBO professional development training and workshops to obtain certification in Local School Accounting and Payroll/Human Resources.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law.
  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
  • Performs any other job-related duties as may be assigned.

Employment Qualifications:

Education
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
Experience
  • Two (2) years specifically related to accounting/bookkeeping with the Alabama State Department of Education such as Harris, PowerSchool (I-Now) (highly preferred)
  • Proficient in the use of computer software including Window based or Apple/Mac operating systems
  • Knowledge of accounting, bookkeeping or fiscal procedures and guidelines and their application to basic accounting transactions

    Maintains integrity of all financial records through compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations
  • Maintains accountability of recorded documentation for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Ensures compliance with school/district policies and procedures

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in an ethical and professional manner
  • Communicates effectively with CSFO and other employees
  • Provides leadership as a team member of the school community
