Play helps children adjust to the school setting, mitigates behavioral problems, and increases academic engagement. School should be fun! Our students have recess for at least 30 minutes per day, and we encourage play and laughter!
Yet while Legacy Prep provides our students with time to play and be children, we have no playground structures.
During recess, our students have only a large open field in which to play. In fact, there is no playground in the entire surrounding community. Our school is located in Northwest Birmingham, which has minimal public green space or safe places for children to play; 97% of our students pull directly from the surrounding area.

Hammill Playgrounds has already generously given us a Community Heroes Grant, which lowered the price by $20,000. We need just $67,000 to make this playground a reality for our students, families, and community.
Legacy Prep respectfully requests your partnership to help us raise $67,000 to install colorful, engaging, high-quality playground equipment in the field behind our school.
The playground structure will include 3 slides, swing sets, and climbing surfaces everywhere. The main structure will be covered by a large umbrella, to ensure the playground can be used in the warmer months, and beneath all equipment will be a soft bed of rubber tire pieces. Eventually, the playground complex will also include a basketball court.
