Dr. Reneta Johnson
Dr. Johnson serves as the executive leader of the school and will ensure that Legacy Prep meets its core mission to create a purposeful community that sparks LOVE,
PERSEVERANCE, WONDER, BOLDNESS, and EXCELLENCE into the core of who our scholars are and who they are growing to be. She will work strategically and collaboratively with the Legacy Prep Board of Directors to set the direction for the school and provide innovative educational leadership in alignment with the school’s vision, mission and values. For over twenty-years, Dr. Johnson has spent her career working for social justice and educational equality for underserved students. Prior to accepting the Head of School position, Dr. Johnson worked as the Alabama Reading Initiative’s (ARI) Regional Literacy Leadership Specialist at the Alabama State Department of Education. There, she supported principals and leaders throughout the state with Literacy components. Over the course of her career, she has held positions such as instructional coach, assistant principal, principal, international school leader and leadership coach.
Dr. Johnson is a proud graduate of Alabama State University where she received her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. She went on to obtain a master’s degree in the Development of Educational Programs, a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership, and a Doctoral Degree in Organizational Leadership. Dr. Johnson’s extensive background and proven track record was recognized by New Leaders for New Schools (NLNS) – a national leadership program that only accepts and trains the top 5% of leaders nationwide. Some of her notable accomplishments include being an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Kappa Delta Pi National Honor Society, and the Memphis National Young Urban League. Additionally, she has received several educational leadership awards, including Outstanding Principal for the City of Memphis, Outstanding Principal for the Abu Dhabi Education Council (UAE), and Alabama State University’s 50 Under 50 Alumni Award. She is the wife of Dorrian Johnson and the loving mother of two beautiful children, Carmell and Anthony. Her hobbies include reading, running, watching sports, and participating in community service.
